These are the installers' own standard flags. Whisper does not ship GPO ADMX templates, an Intune package, or a management console. You deploy it with the standard MSI or desktop-app workflow you already use, and configure it with the file below.
Managed configuration (from version 1.4.4)
Drop one file next to the installer and nobody has to type a license key, pick settings, or add the team vocabulary. The same file lets you fix the settings that matter for compliance, so a user cannot switch them back.

What it does
- License key: the app activates itself at first start. Your people never see the license screen.
- Settings: pre-set values such as the model, the language, or whether update checks run.
- Locked keys: forced on every read, and writes are ignored. Editing the settings file by hand does not help. The app shows the control as managed by your organisation.
- Custom words: one vocabulary for the whole team, merged into each list or replacing it. Update the file and the change reaches every device.
For the security review
Set post_process_enabled to false and lock it. Optional AI post-processing is then off on every machine and cannot be turned on, so no text can reach a cloud provider. Transcription itself always runs on the device.
A missing or broken file changes nothing: Whisper starts normally and unmanaged. Only 13 approved settings keys can be controlled. API keys and shortcuts are ignored on purpose. Need the full reference with Intune, Jamf and Ansible examples? Ask us and we send it.
Activation & licensing
Whisper activates with one shared license key for your team, used on each device up to your seat count. There's no per-user cloud account to create and no admin portal to run. You distribute the key with the same tooling that pushes the installer, and the buyer can see and remove activated devices at /account.

Can we activate the licence and settings without touching each machine?
Yes, from version 1.4.4. Place a whisper-managed.json file with your MDM (C:\ProgramData\Whisper on Windows, /Library/Application Support/Whisper on macOS, /etc/whisper on Linux). It can carry the licence key, so the app activates itself at first start, pre-set settings, a list of settings the user may not change, and one shared custom word list. A missing or broken file changes nothing and the app starts unmanaged.
Can I deploy Whisper silently and at scale?
Yes. Whisper ships as standard installers you can push through your existing software-distribution tooling. On Windows the MSI installs unattended with the normal msiexec flags (msiexec /i Whisper_x64.msi /quiet), and the NSIS .exe installer accepts the silent /S flag. macOS ships a DMG and Linux ships AppImage/deb/rpm, so you use the same deployment workflow you already run for other desktop apps — no special packaging from us required.
Do you have a management console or admin portal?
No, and that's deliberate. Whisper is a self-contained desktop app — there is no cloud admin console to stand up, no server to host, and no per-user portal to administer. You manage it exactly like any other installed application, using the MDM or software-distribution tooling you already own.
Does Whisper need cloud accounts for each user?
No. Your team gets one shared license key, activated on each device up to your seat count. There is no per-user cloud account, no single sign-on to wire up, and no directory to sync. When someone leaves, the buyer removes that device at get-whisper.com/account to free the seat.
How does activation work?
Each machine activates once with the team license key, which verifies the purchase and uses one seat. No audio, transcripts, or document content is ever sent — only the key. After activation the app runs fully offline. For teams that cannot allow any outbound activation call at all, contact us about offline activation.
Can it run offline or in an air-gapped environment?
After activation, yes — transcription runs entirely on-device and needs no internet. The only outbound connections are a one-time model download, the license activation, a license re-check about once a day when online (key and device ID only), and optional update checks. After activation all of them are blockable at your firewall, and Whisper keeps working until the license end date. For fully air-gapped fleets that cannot make even the initial activation call, contact us about offline activation.
How do we buy volume licenses?
Volume pricing is $39 for the first seat and $29 for each additional seat, for teams up to 100, available at get-whisper.com/teams. It's one purchase per year with no subscription and no auto-renewal. Checkout collects your company name and VAT ID and sends an invoice.
